Harvesting Hope: Fall into God’s Everlasting Love

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9

As we begin to explore our fall theme - Fall Into Love - we’re invited to embark on a profoundly transformative journey, one that calls us to renew our faith by falling deeply in love with God. This isn’t about an abstract concept or a distant deity; it's about nurturing a vibrant, personal relationship with the Divine that invigorates our spiritual lives and revitalizes our community.

The Ultimate Romance

One of the things I've learned over my years in ministry is that falling in love with God begins with a desire to rekindle our relationship with the Divine. Just as romantic love grows through time, attention, and care, our spiritual love for God flourishes through intentional connection. This involves spending quiet moments in prayer and meditation, listening to sacred texts, participating in collective practices, and seeking God’s presence in our daily lives. As we open our hearts more fully, we invite God to be a living, breathing part of our existence, enriching our faith journey with deeper intimacy.

In romantic relationships, we often experience the joy of discovering how loved we are. In the same way, falling in love with God means embracing the profound truth of God's boundless love for us. God’s love is patient, kind, and enduring. Even if we feel estranged from God, the Love of the great I AM does not falter or fade. As we open ourselves to this divine affection, we begin to see ourselves and the world through the lens of that eternal love. This perspective not only nurtures our faith but also inspires us to mirror this love in our interactions with others.

Love in Action

When we fall in love with God, it inevitably transforms how we engage with our community. Love is an active force; it moves us to serve, to care, and to act with compassion. A renewed love for God prompts us to extend that love outward, reaching out to those in need, standing up for justice, seeking peace, and building bridges of understanding. This love transforms our congregation into a living testament to the Divine Love we hold dear, creating a vibrant, compassionate community that reflects God’s love in every action.

Just as relationships flourish with shared experiences and rituals, our relationship with God deepens through spiritual practices. Engaging in regular worship, participating in community fellowship, play, and learning, and practicing gratitude are vital rituals that help sustain our love for God. These practices are not merely obligations but opportunities to experience and express our devotion, reinforcing our connection and commitment to our individual and collective spiritual journey.

Love’s Resilience

And... every relationship faces challenges. Our spiritual love for God is no exception. There will be moments of doubt, difficulty, and distance. Yet, true love endures through these trials. Embracing God’s love means trusting in that love even when we face uncertainty. It means turning to God for strength and reassurance, knowing that our relationship with God can weather any storm.

As we move forward, let us embrace our fall theme and the call to fall in love with God anew. Let us allow this love to be the foundation of our faith, the catalyst for our actions, and the heart of our community. In doing so, we become the Body of Christ alive in the world. We become a Harvest of Hope for Salem and the world.

With love and gratitude,

Pastor Robin
